Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist and client enter into a therapeutic relationship, based on safety and trust, where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling and behaviour.

Registered Psychotherapist is a regulated health practitioner who is authorized to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy.  In Ontario, only therapists who are registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) use the title Registered Psychotherapistand have the abbreviation RP after their name.  RPs are accountable to CRPO for the quality of care they provide and for their professional conduct

As Registered Psychotherapists we understand the importance of establishing a therapeutic relationship to begin healing from unwanted eating behaviours and body image concerns.  We are trauma-informed and are trained in delivering many evidence-based treatments for eating disorders including Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Enhanced (CBT-E) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Before moving forward with change, we want to help you gain an understanding of the role that these thoughts and behaviours play in your life.  Together we can address the underlying issues and find more adaptive ways of coping as you work toward aligning with what is really important to you.  We hope to help you identify and deepen your understanding of the influences that have prevented you from both learning to let go and from aligning with your authentic self.
