Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment?

We recommend that you start by booking a complimentary 15-minute clarity call. This way you will have an opportunity to ask us questions, get to know us a little bit and decide if you would like to book the first session. You can use our online booking system so you can easily see the times we have available and reschedule if needed.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

You do not need a doctor’s referral to make an appointment.  If, after discussing your current health it is apparent that your eating behaviours may be affecting your physical wellbeing, we will recommend that you see your doctor.  With your permission, we will liaise regularly with your doctor to support your wellness in the circle of care.

Can I see you if I already have a therapist?

Yes, we would be happy to see you if you are already working with a therapist.   As Registered Dietitians, we would focus on goals related to your eating. With your permission, we will liaise regularly with your therapist to ensure our work is complementing the work you are doing in therapy.

Can I see you if I already have a dietitian?

Yes, we would be happy to see you if you are already working with a dietitian.   As Registered Psychotherapists, we would focus on addressing the underlying issues that contribute to maintaining the eating problem.  With your permission, we will liaise regularly with your dietitian to ensure our work is complementing the work you are doing on your eating.

Can I see you in person?

We see most of our clients virtually but let us know your needs and if seeing us in person is something you really would prefer, let’s discuss the options.

Do we give homework?

We might.  It will depend on what goals you are working on and what behaviour change you would like to achieve. Homework provides you with an opportunity to continually work on moving forward in between sessions. It might involve doing a worksheet, reading a suggested article, recording your eating or practicing a specific behaviour. The work that you do in-between sessions contributes to your overall progress in making lasting change.

Are you available in between sessions if I want to talk to you?

If you have questions or concerns in between sessions you are welcome to reach out. We always try to respond within a timely manner and will aim to get back to you shortly during regular business hours. If you are feeling like you might benefit from more support, you can discuss increasing the frequency of sessions with us.

Do I have to get weighed in session?

This will depend on your goals.  If this is something you feel you would like support or makes sense clinically, we can come up with a plan to assist you virtually with this.

What should I do if I am in a crisis or emergency?

If you are in crisis and need immediate support we encourage you to call a crisis hotline.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask that you give us 24-hour notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment to avoid a cancellation fee. You can easily cancel your appointment and/or reschedule to another time through our online booking system.  If you have extenuating circumstances that require you to cancel your appointment in less than 24 hours, please reach out to us as soon as possible.

How do I pay and what are the payment options?

To keep your costs low, we are currently only accepting e-Transfers.  If this doesn’t work for you, let us know and we will arrange an alternative.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

We do offer some sliding scale spots and would be happy to discuss further.

Are your services covered by my health benefits?

Many workplaces and health insurance plans include both Registered Dietitians (RD) and Registered Psychotherapists (RP) in their benefit packages.  It is important to check with your provider to find out what your plan covers.  After your session, we will provide you with an insurance-friendly receipt that includes all the information you need to submit to your insurance company by you for reimbursement.

If you don’t have coverage, the receipts are still useful for income tax.  Counselling services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and a Registered Dietitian (RD) in Ontario can be claimed as a medical expense when filing your income tax return.
